It's Official...

...we are doing a 5K Walk/Run on July 4th in Claremont.

July 2nd will mark our 6 months (24 weeks) on WW and I was thinking what a better way to mark that milestone than do something we have NEVER done...and to celebrate Independence Day.

With WW you are to set goals for yourself; small ones in between your ultimate goal.

So we have hit our 5% goal; our 10% goal; our 25 pounds lost goal; and Tommy is quickly approaching his 50 goal....and I am not far behind to mine.  We have both also dropped a size, almost two in our clothes....now that's a great feeling!

Now I don't know how much actual "running" I will do for this one.  Tommy I am sure can do some but we will see.  I am hoping this is the first of other 5K's for us.then onto 10K's....hopefully

So we will be keeping up our walking as much as we can til then and than we will 'GO FOR IT!"

FABULOUS FRIDAY

Farmers Market @ Fairfax and 3rd
some of the goods you can fnd

Tommy shopping for strawberries

another great find....FLAVORED PASTA
TOMMY......after 16 weeks on WW

The NEW us....after 16 weeks
we brought ALL this home for $10...great deal!!!!

As you can tell by the blog Tommy and I love to do things together....we love to do "out of the box' things.  We like to make our day off together (when it happens) fun and special.  So this Friday we were off and we were going to head out to Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade, go for a walk on the beach (exercise and activity points) and have a point friendly lunch.  But the traffic didn't wanna work with us and with having to be back in town for a 6p softball game, we couldn't take the chance so we headed over to The Farmer's Market and The Grove.

Now living in Southern California, there are always SO many different options and places to go to have fun.

We have done this before so we knew it would be fun.  There are SO many places to eat, such a variety...Korean..Mexican...Creole....Italian...French...Brazilian...and so much more.  There are plenty of fresh meat stands... bakery stands...fruit stands...a wide variety.  We found a stand that makes there own flavored pasta.....we got out my WW calculator and for a cup of pasta is between 4 and 5 points; depends on the type you buy.  Now the good thing about WW you can eat anything you like, just watch your portions control.  I make pasta dishes for us, so we were excited to try a couple of the flavored pastas...we got lemon pepper pasta; imagine that with some chicken or grilled salmon...yummy! and we also got spinach and garlic pasta....so looking forward to that with some grilled shrimp....I will post those recipes when I make them, which could be this week =)       We also got some fresh fruit (zero points) that was inexpensive and smelled so sweet.  I also got a couple heads of artichokes; now I have never made any but remember most vegetable are zero points.

So we shopped and ate lunch (we chose the Braizlian BBQ)...I know you are thinking what about the points.....rememeber its portions sizes that are impotant.  It's where do you choose to use you points?....if you load up on salads and veggies than the meat is do-able.

After we finished eating and shopping we headed towards The Grove and do some more walking.(more activity points)  It was a beautiful day to be out enjoying the weather, the sites (did I mention we also saw Rita WIlson, Poppy Montgomery, Vanessa WIlliams and Mario Lopez)...man you gotta love LA!

I can honestly say these last 16 weeks on WW has been a great decision for Tommy and I.  Now don't get me wrong, we arent stopping.  There is so much more to it than losing weight, its about learnig to live healthy and make better choices.  We have made a commitment to making better choices in our eating habits....and living healthier....making our journey to 50(and beyond) and Fabulous a road we are happy to be on!!!

THANK YOU PANDORA

I just want to share that I am learning so many new things....turning 50 will do that to you...lol

Well I now have PANDORA on my android phone, which is super cool ( why didnt I have it sooner) ...it came in very handy yesterday for me.

I had mentioned last week that Tommy walked to my work on his day off, its only a 2 mile walk.  Then Thomas did it onSunday to pick up the car....so if they can do it SO CAN I!!!

...and I did.....yesterday I walked home from work.  It just happened that the guys ( Thomas and Tommy) were both at a training class, and werent avaiable when I got off.  So I turned on PANDORA, plugged in my headphones..and set off on my way.

It took me 45 minutes, which may not be fast...but I enjoyed the walk, the music (total country for me) and was proud of myself....15 weeks ago I would have NEVER been able to that, ok maybe I could have but it would have taken me a LOT longer; I wouldn't be able to walk AT ALL today. My feet would be swollen, my back would hurt....but thankfully I feeling fine today.

Pandora along with Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Dicie Chicks, Rascal Flats and Carrie Underwood made it a great walk......thanks to them all!

Can't wait to do it again....

A CATCH UP DAY.....

I have been thinking, how I had started to blog to keep Tommy and I accountable on journey with WW, and to share with you and hopefully; maybe; encourage you.  To let you know that whatever it be, if you set your mind to it and give yourself a goal you can acheieve it.  We are proof that it can be done!!

Tommy and I are happy to hear from you who have "joined" us on the journey to a healthy way of living and eating, some family and friends.  Some of our co-workers and family have said that we have encouraged them to do WW too.  Several have already joined WW , either online or at a meeting.  We are here to help them in any way we can.  Support is a big key to reaching your goal...it has been a major factor in our journey....support from each other along with our weekly meetings.  Its always nice to hear a nice compliment, which is always a nice thing to hear and a great way to stay motivated.

There are some rough days; on the go and what to eat..... honestly how many times can you go to Subway while at an ALL DAY basketball tournament....LOL...quite a few =)

I am thankful that the weather has changed...meals will change up a lot for us.  I love how quick it is to throw things on the bbq and not heat up the house.  And the smell of BBQ'ing....its to die for!  I will also be looking for some 'lite' verizon of those favorite summertime favorites.....macaroni salad and potate salad for sure.  What is a  BBQ without those salads???

I am going to try and do a better job at this blog.  Sharing our joureny with you, giving some recipes that we have tried (and love), being here to help you on "YOUR ROAD TO FABULOUS"

Have a blessed day

So where we are now...

It has almost been 4 months sine Tommy and I started WW...and with our busy and hectic life, its amazing how we have had the ability to keep it up...we unfortunately have not been to weigh in in two weeks, so today we made sure we made time t go and weigh in before we had to run off to another softball game....

so our latest numbers are:
for Tommy...he has lost 46.2 pounds....he is knocking on the door of his goal of 50 pounds..only 3.8 to go
for me...I have lost 34 pounds...putting me 16 away from the goal of 50...the goal Tommy set for both us.

It feels as if this month as been a little slow in the TOTAL pound lost but we are still on the losing track.  We have totally redone our eating habits and now we need to step out the exercise portion of our journey.

Can't wait to see what is next as we continue on our journey of 50 and fabulous...the road to getting there

Just the two of us

DOWNTOWN DISNEY

Mickey Mouse Candy Apples...couldn't find in point book
He is making JACK SKELETON ones....

THE JAZZ KITCHEN.....FOOD WAS AMAZINGLY GOOD!!!

So sometimes Tommy and I are fortunate enough to schedule a day off together and yestetday we were able to do just that.  So we headed out to Downtown Disney for the afternoon.  We walked aroud and looked around at all the stores and kiosks (check off walking for the day) and then we decided to tey a new resturant(always willing to step out of the box), so we picked THE JAZZ KITCHEN.  The ambonce was really cool, the weather was perfect, so we sat oit on the patio....felt just like being in The French Quarter (maybe we cam visit there someday)  We had a great lunch, the food had an amazing taste amd some new flavors I usually dont tey...Tommy is ALWAYS up to try new things...so we had THE BAYOU SAMPLER for two.....2 cocomut shrimp ( 1 pt ea), 2 sweet pork ribs (pts), 2 fried artichok hearts (.5 pts ea) and some calamari (pts) they came with some amazing dips.....we then decided on splitting a BLACKENED NEW YORK STEAK COBB SALADwith a creole vinegrette...OMG......DELISOUSH!!!

I write about these things to let you know that even though we are on WW, we still do fun things and venrure out and try something new...and stay within our daily points.  Sometimes its easy and sometimes its hard...but we stick to it and never give up.

"WALK THIS WAY"

....who remember that Aerosmith song?

I finally did it....I know I have been talking (writing) about it for weeks, and I know Tommy does it almost everyday at work....I staerted walking!!  Now I know I may not have a really routine down yet...but I know its a start.  I am hoping it will push me over this plateau I am currently at.  Tommy's walking on  the treadmill has payed off so I know if I can really get into a routine with the walking.

So last week I walked 30 minutes  a day for two days.  Last weekend I did not walk a full 30 minutes in a row, mbut with all the walking back and forth from the basketball gyms to parkimg lots....it was at least something.

I am hoping to get back out there today to get back on track and get 30 minutes in a day to "walk this way"

WHAT A GREAT DAY......

A DODGER DOG...SO WORTH 8 POINTS!!!!

BEAUTIFUL DAY TO BE @ DODGER STADIUM

It was a great day out at the game.  The weather was nice...the pre-game festivities were  nice...Either's homerun on his birthday was nice...and the Dodgers winning was REALLY NICE!

Now just because you are on WW doesn't mean you can't enjoy a day out at a baseball game.or an amusement park...you just have to plan for it.  For example you can have a piece of fruit (zero points) and a yogurt (3 points) or an oatmeal ( 4 points)...which leaves you a wide variety of points left for the fun!!

Then you can end the day with a salad (zero points) and a point or two for the dressing and an ice tea (zero points) and there you have a complete day of eating and enjoying something fun!!

Then just balance out the remainder of your week so you don't go overboard.

Now it took us time to figure this out...but once you do...you too will have a fun day out at the game!!

Weigh In Monday

unfortunately has been postponed due to a softball game....

Tommy coaches Jailene's softball team; The Rocketts; and they have a game today at 530p which will make it imopssible to have time to go weigh in after work.

So Tommy and I are off tomorrow to head out to Dodgers Opening Day, so we will go and weigh in BEFORE we head out.  I am sure weighing in before hot dogs, peanuts and cracker jacks is probably a GOOD thing.

So I thought I'd share a great recipe with you for

where does the time go?

I can't believe it has been over a week since my last post.  Sometime I don't know if this blog even gets read but I know a couple of my girls who do.....but it also helps me to keep accountable with my WW journey.

I last posted a couple pictures from my 50th birthday.  I know this blog was to keep track of our journey to 50 and fabulous...and although I have hit the 50th mark...my road to getting there is not over.  I mean I feel better with the loss I have had so far and I know there is still more I can do.  I actually started walking last week.  I have made a commitment to walk at least 30 minutes a day....so far its been every other day til the weekend came...hoping to get back to it tomorrow.  I think it will help push my weight loss ahead.  Tommy walks about 3 to 4 times a week at work on the treadmill and believe that has helped his weight loss...(besides him being a man and losing quicker than us women)

I was so blessed by the friends and family who came out to celebrate my 50th birthday with us.  I truly believe God puts people ni our lives for a reason and for such a time as this.  The love that I felt from all who was there that night ( and from those who couldn't make it) was amazing.  So I want to thank my friends, old AND new, my family, my kids and my husband....thank you for making me feel so special as I hit this milestone....my life is blessed by you in it, I can never really express how much it means to have you in my life.

ps...you can always go to thefraijofamily.shutterfly.com to  check out the pics from the party

April 2nd Weigh In Update:
So besides my birthday on Thursday and a board of directors dinner on Saturday, our weight loss was the same as the prior week....Tommy is still at 43.6 total loss for 13 weeks. his goal of 50 pounds is quickly approaching.  I think in the next week or two he will succeed in reaching that goal.  He says he will continue to maintain and keep the good eating habits he has learned through out this journey.  He is ready to start his weight lifting regiment again.

I also remained the same, 31.4 pounds lost in 13 weeks.  Now my goal of 50 pounds (that Tommy set for both of us) is still a bit away, but I think the walking is going to help speed up the loss.  People ask me what is my ultimate goal.....after the 50 pound goal.  I don't really know, I mean I know what "stats" say I should weigh, but seriously I don't remember being that weight in high school.  besides that was over 32 years ago, over 28 years of marriage, and 3 kids ago.....I just want to feel good and live a healthier life style.  I want to be able to run and play with my future grandkids.

SO you see my journey to "50 and fabulous" has not ended with the celebration of my 50th birthday...or the upcoming celebration of Tommy's in June.  It has only really just begun.....
